Magnitude 5.6 earthquake strikes Western Australia: Tremors hit Gnowangerup and rattles houses as distant as Perth

An enormous earthquake has rocked the southern area of Western Australia, rattling houses as distant as Perth.

The 5.6 magnitude earthquake was recorded at a depth of 5km within the small WA city of Gnowangerup, positioned between Katanning and Albany, by Geoscience Australia at 5.34am on Sunday.

It has generated nearly 1,800 ‘felt’ studies, with individuals taking to social media to say they skilled tremors as far north as Perth. 

One lady mentioned she was actually shaken from her mattress and her canines ‘going loopy’.

‘It gave the impression of a practice coming,’ she wrote.

Folks took to social media to share their experiences of the tremors, with many claiming they have been shaken from their beds 

Many individuals removed from the epicentre claimed they felt the tremors.  

‘Did anybody else in Perth really feel that shake round 530-540 this morning?’, wrote one Fb person.

‘Felt like an earthquake, not an enormous one however sufficient to shake the home.’
