RAF Typhoons intercept two Russian bombers north of Scotland

Britain stated its Hurricane fighter jets intercepted two Russian maritime patrol bomber plane in worldwide airspace north of Scotland on Monday, inside NATO‘s northern air policing space.

The fighter jets scrambled from RAF Lossiemouth in Moray to observe the flight path of the Russian Tu-142 Bear-F and Tu-142 Bear-J plane.

These Russian plane are filled with an array of communications and reconnaissance tools that makes them extremely adept at monitoring submarine exercise. 

‘Pilots launched of their Hurricane jets to intercept two Russian long-range bombers this morning, monitoring them as they handed north of the Shetland Islands, able to counter any potential menace to UK territory,’ British armed forces minister James Heappey stated.

The lead RAF Hurricane pilot added: ‘It is actually satisfying to know we have been capable of make a profitable intercept, sustaining the integrity of UK and NATO airspace.

‘When the alarm for a scramble occurred within the early hours of the morning, the adrenaline kicked in.
