US Coast Guard helicopter that crashed throughout rescue mission in Alaska is recovered


JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) — A helicopter that crashed in southeast Alaska throughout a rescue mission final month has been recovered, the U.S. Coast Guard stated Saturday.

The downed Coast Guard helicopter was recovered Friday and an investigation was ongoing. The MH-60 Jayhawk crashed on Learn Island, about 80 miles (130 kilometers) east of Sitka, on Nov. 13. The 4 aircrew members had been taken to Seattle for therapy after the crash. They’ve since been launched, the Coast Guard stated.

The Coast Guard beforehand described two of the crew members’ accidents as severe.

“We’re grateful our 4 crewmembers had been launched from Harborview Medical Heart and are on the street to restoration,” Coast Guard Capt. Brian McLaughlin, who led restoration efforts, stated in a press release. “We’re additionally extremely grateful to the many individuals and organizations who helped us recuperate the plane. Getting the helicopter to the place our investigators can higher study the wreckage is the subsequent step within the ongoing investigation.”

The crash was reported by the fishing vessel that had been the topic of the helicopter’s search and rescue mission.
