A violent transgender prisoner whose switch to a girls’s jail was blocked has died in custody.
Tiffany Scott, who was beforehand referred to as a person referred to as Andrew Burns, died in HMP Grampian on Thursday.
The 32-year-old was serving an indefinite sentence below an order for lifelong restriction (OLR)
Scott was handed the sentence in 2013, after admitting stalking a 13-year-old lady by sending letters whereas serving a jail sentence.
A Scottish Jail Service spokesperson stated: “Tiffany Scott, 32, of HMP Grampian has died on 29 February 2024. With every loss of life in custody, Police Scotland are suggested and the matter reported to the Procurator Fiscal. Deadly Accident Inquiries are held in the end.”
Scott, then referred to as Burns, was convicted of attacking a nurse in Cheshire in 2010.
In 2017, Falkirk Sheriff Courtroom was locked down amid security fears as Scott was sentenced over a sequence of violent incidents in Glenochil Jail in Clackmannanshire.
They included placing a jail nurse on her again with a hurled chair, punching a jail officer within the face, and spitting at one other officer and making an attempt to chew him.
Scott additionally smeared excrement over a cell and ripped up “tear-proof” clothes.
Scott’s request to maneuver to a girls’s jail was blocked after the row involving another trans prisoner.
Scott’s OLR meant the prisoner would solely have been launched when now not thought-about an “unmanageable threat to public security”.
