Denmark’s Prime Minister Frederiksen assaulted in central Copenhagen, man arrested


COPENHAGEN (Reuters) -Denmark’s Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen walked away following an assault by a person in central Copenhagen on Friday and had no outward indicators of hurt, an area resident advised Reuters.

“Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen was crushed on Friday night at Kultorvet (sq., purple.) in Copenhagen by a person who was subsequently arrested. The Prime Minister is shocked by the incident,” her workplace stated in an announcement with out giving additional element.

Police stated on social media platform X that they had arrested a person and have been investigating the incident however declined to present additional element.

“She appeared a little bit careworn,” Soren Kjergaard, who works as a barista on the sq., advised Reuters after seeing the prime minister being escorted away by safety following the assault.

The assault comes two days earlier than Danes head to the polls within the EU election. Three weeks in the past, Slovakia’s Prime Minister Robert Fico was critically injured in an assassination try.

Danish Minister of Setting Magnus Heunicke stated on X: “Mette is of course shocked by the assault. I have to say that it shakes all of us who’re near her.”
