Oklahoma Baptist College pronounces plans for former St. Gregory’s College in Shawnee

Land that was as soon as house to a Catholic college is being returned to Benedictine monks who live on adjacent property.

The Oklahoma Metropolis-based retailer Interest Foyer and the Inexperienced household purchased the 73-acre property that housed St. Gregory’s College in Shawnee for $8 million in 2018 after the college declared chapter.

In 2019, Interest Foyer donated the land to Oklahoma Baptist College, whose campus is close by. On Friday, OBU leaders introduced that that they had returned the land to the monks at St. Gregory’s Abbey in alternate for 2 different parcels of land in Shawnee that the Abbey owned.

Heath Thomas, OBU president, talked in regards to the resolution to present the land to the monastic group throughout a quick information convention with Abbot Lawrence Stasyszen held simply outdoors St. Gregory’s Abbey chapel.

After the 2019 land donation, OBU referred to the previous St. Gregory’s property at 1900 W MacArthur because the OBU Inexperienced Campus, named after the Inexperienced household. St. Gregory’s Abbey and the Mabee-Gerrer Museum continued to occupy their adjoining property as a result of they operated as separate entities from St. Gregory’s College.
