375-pound loggerhead sea turtle returns to Atlantic Ocean after 3 months of rehab in Florida


COCOA BEACH, Fla. (AP) — A 375-pound (170-kilogram) sea turtle has been launched again into the Atlantic Ocean after three months of rehabilitation in Florida.

Officers with the Brevard Zoo launched a male loggerhead named Bubba Wednesday afternoon in Cocoa Seaside.

Biologists with Inwater Analysis discovered Bubba in St. Lucie County on April 10, officers mentioned. After noticing accidents to each entrance flippers, they used a crane to tug him out of the water and right into a service of their pickup truck to deliver him to the zoo.

A preliminary examination discovered that Bubba had probably been injured in a predator assault. The ocean turtle was additionally coping with an intensive infestation of marine leeches, which had been inflicting anemia.

Biologists estimate Bubba is 60 to 75 years previous.
