Israeli warplanes break sound barrier over Beirut, Lebanese safety sources say

BEIRUT (Reuters) – Israeli warplanes broke the sound barrier over Beirut and different areas of Lebanon on Tuesday, Lebanese safety sources and media reported, rattling nerves because the battle between the Iran-backed Hezbollah and Israel grinds on on the border.

The battle between Hezbollah and Israel has been fought in parallel to the Gaza battle for 9 months. Although the hostilities have been largely contained to areas close to the border, the battle has raised fears of a wider battle.

Lebanon’s state-run Nationwide Information Company mentioned hostile warplanes had damaged the sound barrier at low altitude over Beirut and its suburbs and different components of Lebanon. In Beirut, residents felt two booms.

There was no rapid remark from the Israeli navy.

The battle between Hezbollah and Israel is the worst since they fought a full-scale battle in 2006.
