A person from South Carolina was arrested Friday, after Kentucky State Police say he tried to abduct a baby from the playground of a college in south Kentucky.

Willie O. Bethea, 37, of Latta, S.C., went onto the playground of Whitley County Intermediate Faculty “and tried to get a baby to go together with him,” Kentucky State Police stated in a information launch. “He was confronted by faculty employees and left the property.”

Bethea was discovered at Walmart in Corbin and arrested.

State police stated all Whitley County Colleges, in addition to Williamsburg Metropolis Colleges and Corbin Metropolis Colleges, had been placed on tender lock-down as a security precaution earlier than the arrest Friday.

Trooper Scottie Pennington stated state police have no idea of any relationship between Bethea and the kid.

Earlier than he was noticed on the playground, Bethea “got here to the varsity and stated that he wished to enroll a child,” however he didn’t have a baby with him, Pennington stated in a brief interview Friday night.

Bethea is charged with tried kidnapping of a minor, first-degree prison trespassing, persistent felony offender and driving on a suspended license.
