Males concerned in Fiesta Island stabbing-shooting recognized

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — On Friday, the San Diego Police Division launched the names of the two men involved in a stabbing and shooting on Fiesta Island final Wednesday.

Officers responded to a name of a stabbing at Fiesta Island final Wednesday round 10:03 a.m. and located two males simply alongside the islet’s shore. One of many males had been stabbed and considered one of them had been shot, police mentioned.

The person who had been stabbed was an off-duty officer who has labored for the San Diego Neighborhood School District Police Division for 25 years. He was recognized Friday as Victor Bocaya.

In response to SDPD, Bocaya arrived at Fiesta Island to stroll his canine. Maloney was close to his van parked about 75 ft away from Bocaya’s car. Earlier than Bocaya may get his canine out of his car, Maloney started yelling at him and approached him, police mentioned.

The incident occurred on the sand between the water and the street on Fiesta Island, in accordance with police.

When Bocaya displayed his badge, recognized himself as a police officer and took out his cellphone to name police, Maloney reportedly started stabbing him with a knife. Police mentioned that is when Bocaya pulled out his private firearm and shot Maloney one time.

Though he was off-duty on the time, SDPD mentioned that is being investigated as an officer-involved taking pictures because of the truth that Bocaya had recognized himself as a police officer and proven his badge.

After the Murder Unit completes its investigation, will probably be reviewed by the San Diego County District Lawyer’s Workplace to find out whether or not Bocaya bears any felony legal responsibility for his actions, SDPD acknowledged.
