October 11, 1974: The 93rd U.S. Congress accepted the institution of the Massive Cypress Nationwide Protect. Bigger than your entire state of Rhode Island, Massive Cypress Nationwide Protect is the nation’s first nationwide protect.
Massive Cypress Nationwide Protect protects over 700,000 acres of the Massive Cypress Swamp in Southwest Florida. It was established because the nation’s first nationwide protect due to native conservations, sportsmen, environmentalists, Seminoles, Miccosukees, and lots of others who banded collectively and opposed the event of the world’s largest Jetport set to occur within the space.
Over tens of 1000’s of years, Massive Cypress Swamp hosted all kinds of teams, from the Calusa and sixteenth century European explorers to the Miccosukee and Seminole. Its 1974 institution because the nation’s first nationwide protect marked the collaboration of many teams devoted to preserving the pure swampland. October 10, 2000: The Collier County Administration Constructing on the authorities middle was named in honor of W. Harmon Turner, who served because the county’s first engineer, public works director and county supervisor.
