DeSantis declares arrest of former proprietor of canine whose Freeway Patrol rescue went viral

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) introduced Tuesday that the previous proprietor of a canine who was rescued by Freeway Patrol as Hurricane Milton made landfall has been arrested and will likely be charged with animal cruelty.

“We had any individual determine, as Hurricane Milton approached, that it could by some means be a very good factor to take his canine and chain it to a submit on the interstate,” DeSantis said throughout a press convention on the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Workplace.

A Florida Freeway Patrol (FHP) trooper, Orlando Morales, took video of the dog, unable to maneuver from the fence, standing in a pool of water as Milton headed towards land.

In a release, Lopez’s workplace named the canine’s proprietor as Giovanny Garcia and mentioned he was charged with aggravated animal cruelty after he admitted to leaving his canine on Interstate 75 when he was evacuating from Milton. Garcia informed authorities that he left his canine, previously named Jumbo, as a result of he couldn’t discover anybody to select it up.

The Leon County Human Society later confirmed the canine was protected at its facility after the FHP rescue.
