US lawmaker calls for solutions on TSMC chip in Huawei machine
WASHINGTON (Reuters) -The Republican chairman of the U.S. Home of Representatives Committee on China demanded solutions on Wednesday from the Commerce Division and TSMC after a chip made by the Taiwanese firm was present in a tool made by China’s Huawei.
“Stories that cutting-edge TSMC-manufactured chips have contributed to Huawei’s AI improvement signify a catastrophic failure of U.S. export management coverage,” Consultant John Moolenaar mentioned in a press release. “Congress wants fast solutions from each (Commerce) and TSMC concerning the scope and quantity of this catastrophe.”
The Commerce Division and TSMC didn’t instantly reply to requests for remark.
The feedback come after Reuters reported earlier on Wednesday that TSMC had suspended shipments to a buyer after it found one in all its chips provided to the shopper had ended up in a Huawei product.
