A Florence lady died in a head-on automobile crash Tuesday because of an oil spill on Freeway 126 close to milepost 19, east of Mapleton.
The Oregon State Police says troopers responded to the scene of a four-vehicle crash at 3:15 p.m. the place they realized a westbound Kenworth log truck was passing by the Knowles Creek Tunnel when a catastrophic engine failure prompted a 200-yard-long oil spill.
The log truck, operated by Billy Coder, 50 of Myrtle Level, exited the tunnel and parked alongside the facet of the roadway.
A westbound Nissan Rogue, operated by Mary Dale, 65, of Florence, misplaced management within the oil slick and crashed into the logging truck earlier than shifting off the freeway.
One other westbound car, operated by Radiant Gaines, 48, of Eugene, misplaced management within the oil slick, crossed into the eastbound lane and struck an eastbound Chevrolet HHR, operated by Christine Climate of Florence, head-on.
Weathers died on the scene, whereas Gaines suffered severe accidents and was taken to a medical middle, officers mentioned.
OSP mentioned the freeway was impacted for roughly 9.5 hours throughout an on-scene investigation.
