Tyrian purple dye was “phenomenally tough to make” as a result of it required “hundreds of crushed seashells” and was solely produced alongside the Mediterranean coast and North Africa, the corporate mentioned. Consequently, the pigment was “costly and was value greater than gold pound for pound.”
The lump of Tyrian purple dye discovered on the Carlisle Cricket Membership is “roughly the scale of a ping pong ball,” BBC reported.
