NC man dies on I-77 after one other driver tries to show round in toll lane: NCSHP

MOORESVILLE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A Yadkin County man died in a crash on Interstate 77 in southern Iredell County Monday afternoon.

In response to the N.C. Division of Transportation, the incident occurred round 3 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 7, on I-77 North simply past Exit 31 (Langtree Highway).

A report from the N.C. State Freeway Patrol says a 2016 Nissan Sentra pushed by 67-year-old Kathleen Williams misplaced management, struck the median barrier and got here to a cease. Williams then drove south within the toll lane to try to show round. That’s when she was struck by a 2021 KTM bike touring north.

Troopers say the driving force of the bike, a 61-year-old from Yadkinville, was ejected from the bike and succumbed to his accidents on the scene.

Williams, 67, of Charlotte, and a passenger have been transported by EMS to an space hospital, with minor accidents.

After the preliminary impression, the bike caught a Nissan Sentra driving north. The Sentra driver was not injured.

Upon completion of the continuing investigation and session with the Iredell County District Lawyer’s Workplace, costs are pending. The preliminary investigation signifies velocity and impairment weren’t contributing components within the collision.

4 of the 5 lanes northbound lanes have been closed throughout the investigation for roughly two hours.
